Mother
5:45 am, she wakes up, the deep circles beneath her eyes tell her story
5:50 am, she shuffles awkwardly to the kitchen, forcing herself to wake up
5:55 am, she gulps down ice-cold water, and ignores the protest of her body
6:00 am, she checks our uniforms, sighing at our carelessness
6:05 am, she tries to wake us up, while we protest, and tell her to go away
6:10 am, holding back tears of withheld frustration, she cooks breakfast
6:15 am, we wake up, hurling insults at her, angry at petty matters
6:20 am, we hear her talking to herself in the silent kitchen, letting out her frustration
6:25 am, we argue with her on everything, knawing on her patience, her resolve
6:30 am, we go to school, not bothering to kiss her goodbye
6:35 am, we reflect and feel guilty for our behavior, our bitter words
6:40 am, we wonder if we should apologize, a conflict of ego and love
6:45 am, we resolve to make it up to her when we get home, or maybe tomorrow…someday.
Reminiscence
She sits, her eyes wandering, sipping on a tea which has lost its heat
She wonders at the cruelty of human nature, reminiscing on a promise of ever after
Scornfully, she laughs at her naivety, her innocence and vulnerability,
The very attributes she was praised for, left her exposed to the world
It took root in her body, turning her heart to coal
Stripping her of her virtue, her faith in life, replacing her with a hollow being
With empty eyes, she stares outside her window, at the world which boasts of goodness,
She feels the pain in the world, and wishes she could help, despite her inability to do so
Poor girl, she still believes in the good in others, despite the cruelty of humankind
Her heart shaking off the roots of greed and cruelty, giving birth to hope and life
And the cycle continues
